Pennsylvania DHIA
Holds Employee Conference
STATE COLLEGE (Centre
Ito.) The PA DHIA annual
summer conference was held on
June 28 and 29. Technicians from
all across the state came together
to have fun as well as recognize
iheir achievements as Pennsylva
nia DHIA technician.
The conference began on Sun
day afternoon in the very lovely
Holiday Inn at Grantville. The
conference began with a welcome
from the president of the Pennsyl
vania DHIA Board of Directors,
storm Hershey. Next on the agen
da was the general manager of
DHIA Dave Slusser who gave an
overview of the happenings and
direction of PA DHIA. Next we

had an inspirational speaker from
Penn State University who
amused the conference attendees
with her wit and humor. The day
ended with a very nice banquet
The next morning began with a
buffet breakfast As soon as break
fast was finished the awards pre-
sentation began. The following is
an overview of the awards pre
sented.
Herb Gilmore Superior
Technician Award
This award was started to honor
Herb Gilmore who was an exten
sion dairy specialist at PA DHIA
from 1946 to 1980. His job duties
included working closely with
county agents to increase the ac-

curacy and reliability or records,
train technicians, enforce rules
and regulations, use records to
build educational programs, in
crease number; of cows and herds
on test, build leadership and
strengthen the board of directors.
The purpose of this award is to
honor those technicians who de
liver exceptional service to the
Pennsylvania DHIA service area
dairy farmers, promote good pub
lic relations and provide up-to
date records for all their members.
The individual receiving this
award must be a full-time employ
ee and have a minimum of 20
