CATTLE CALVES
THIS WEEK 2471 1633
LAST WEEK 2758 1552
LAST YEAR 2586 1624
CATTLE: Compared to last week's closing prices,
slaughter steers and heifers closed .50 lower. The loss
was posted on Monday, on top of last week's lower
market, and then managed to hold steady through the test
of the week. A moderate offering of Holstdn steers sold
mostly steady. Western feedlot trade lost another dollar
this week to close at mostly 60.00 live and 94.00-95.00
dressed. Increased cow slaughtering, due to the South
western draught, caused boneless beef prices to plunge
this week. Local slaughter cows closed 1.00- 2.00 lower
and slaughter bulls ended steady to 1.00 lower. This
week's supply included 47 percent slaughter steers, 7
percent slaughter heifers, 36 percent slaughter cows, 4
percent bulla and the balance were feeder cattle.
