    COCHRANVILLE (Chester
Co) - The halter division is
proving popular for attendees of
the Triangle Series horse shows.
In halter, horses and ponies
are judged primarily on their
confirmation (looks), although
ring manners are also consid
ered in judging. Horses and
ponies age 3 or younger compete
in this division.
At the June 14 show held at
KA Equestrian Center, Cochranville,
the Halter Champion was
Creme Brulee, shown by Lisa
Thompson of Gap. Reserve
champion was Marshall Law,
shown by Alicia DelDuco of
Catamount Road, Oxford.
(Three farms comprise the
“triangle” - KA Equestrian
Center, Grazing Acres Farm in
New London, and Fox Meadow
m Unionville). Championships
and reserves in each division are

Progressive Clovers
4-H Club
The monthly meeting of the
Progressive Clovers 4-H Club
was held June 8 at Baust Parish
House in Tyrone, Md.
The program for the evening
was on dairy and swine
Members of Progressive
Clovers 4-H Club recently par
ticipated in the 68th Annual
Hoards Dairyman Cow Judging
Contest and placed in the top 10
receiving honorable mention out
of 721 4-H clubs across the USA
and Canada.
Members from the club were

Miller's home; July 15, all state
fair entries are due; July 25 to
Aug 1, Carroll County Fair; and
Aug 30 to Sept 7, Maryland
State Fair

4-H Camp
Adams and Franklin County
4-H members wished they were
ducks at the 1998 4-H Camp
held June 9 - June 12 at Camp
Eder m Fairfield.
Approximately 60 4-H mem
bers attended camp to enjoy the
Halter Champion Is Creme Brulee
presented at each show, in addi
tion to end-of-series high point
awards. The next series show is
scheduled for Sunday, July 12,
at Grazing Acres.

Winning two championships
each on June 14 were Andrea
Heinzman of Elkview, Jessica
Know of Unionville, and Alicia
Boyle of New London.
Heinzman rode her Arabian,
Quintessa, to a championship in
the mini stirrup division (for rid
ers 10 and under), and then
moved up to also win the short
stirrup championship for riders
aged 12 and under.
Jessica Knox on Star won the
open equitation championship
(for riders age 13 or older), and
numerous activities that helped
them go "back in time " Just the
beginning of the fun was staying
in covered wagons at the camp,
which is a part of the camp's
atmosphere
Workshops include weaving
baskets lead by Sharon Baker,
4-H volunteer by Jeanne Plotica,
Adams County extension agent
and 4-H coordinator; hose play
lead by Darlene Resh, Adams
County 4-H extension agent;
outdoor cooking lead by Karen
Wenger, Franklin County 4-H
assistant; recreation, lead by Tia
Crider, Franklin County 4-H
summer assistant; and learning
and trees, led by George Hurd,
extension agent
environment/resource develop
ment.
The 4-H Campers also partic
ipated in swimming, crafts,
recreation, and movies during
their free time every day In the
evenings they participated in
mixers on Tuesday, a civil war
reenactor program by James
Dilts and Bob Klokis on
Wednesday, and ghosts stones
told by storyteller Ann Griffith
on Thursday.
On Friday, the 4-H Campers
chose two intensive workshops
to fill their morning hours. The
intensive workshops offered
include a GPU demonstration by
Sharon Ullman, GPU; water
quality demonstration by Tom
McCarty, multi county water
quality extension agent; first aid
demonstration by Holly
Cookerly, Gettysburg Hospital;
Fizz and Fuzz workshop pre
sented by Linda Spahr, exten
sion agent from York County;
plants workshop by Ann Bonson,
a Franklin County master gar
dener; Series science m your
sink workshop by Abe Bucher,
an Adams County 4-H volun
teer; and 4-H promotion work
shop by Jenna Molino, Adams
County 4-H Summer Program
Assistant
Darlene Resh, 4-H extension
agent from Adams County and
camp director, says this year's
camp was the best one in a few
years and that it will be hard to
top it.
The kids stayed in good spir
its alTweek, despite the wet and
cold weather. Of the 60 campers
the championship of the low
hunter division. The pair were
also the reserve champions of
the hunter divisions.
Alicia Boyle, a Western rider,
won championship's in the west
ern and the pleasure divisions
with Desert Bold Fire, an
Arabian owned by Dawn
McCuen of Cochranville.
Leadline champion was
Heather Mackenzie riding Lady
Ashleigh. Reserve champion
was Kate Greig, Christiana, rid
ing Tabatha.
Mini mini champion was
Nina Shaffer of Audrey Lynn
Dr., Coatesville, riding Superboy.
Reserve was Brooke Holloway
riding Wyndom, who survived a
ride-off for reserve against
Shawna Simmons of Christiana
riding Tabatha.

Sets Heritage Day
WILLOW STREET (Lancaster
Co.) - The Hans Herr House will
hold its 19th annual Heritage on
August 1,-from 9 am, until 4 pm.
This fun-filled farm festival fea
tures demonstrations of farm
life and activities from the 18th
century to the early 20th.
This year's theme is early
food preparation, and the work
involved in getting food from the
field to the table. Threshing,
flailing, and corn shelling will be
demonstrated, and visitors will
be able to see a smokehouse,
outdoor bake oven, and
Pennsylvania German raised
hearth in operation, and to sam
ple goodies from these sites.
More modem fare is available at
concession stands, such as
roasted corn, rhubarb punch;
Landenberg on Mardi Gras.
Reserve was Sara Schaefer,
Lincoln University, on Fudge.
Baby green champion was
Oreo ridden by Leah Moorhead
of Wilson Mill Rd., Oxford. Oreo
was also reserve champion in
the low hunter division. Reserve
in the baby green division went

Hunter champion was
Acclaim to Fame, owned by
Diane Ray of Oxford and ridden
by Meg Shortlidge of Nova Lane,
West Grove. Shortlidge was also
the reserve champion of the
open equitation division, this
time on Kaluvi Firasha.
Reserve champion in the mini
stirrup division was Rachel
Lowe of Nottingham riding WBF
Kashim.

Born To Show
4-H Club Meeting
A meeting of the Born to
Show Dairy Club was held June
20 at the Mack’s farm. Roundup
will be on July 31-August 1 at
the Harford Fairgrounds.
Deadline for permission slips
is July 28. Most members are
attending districts at Troy.
Entry cards are due by July
17 to attend districts on Aug. 17
at Tioga. Members are reminded
to work on project books and
bring them to the next meeting.
The club is buying a sweat
shirt for each member with a
cow and “Born to Show Dairy
Club” written on the back. The
next meeting is July 25 at 7:30
p.m. at the Montrose
Presbyterian Church.

Admission to Heritage Days
is $5 for adults, 1 for children
ages 7-12, 6 and under are free.
