To celebrate the accomplish
ments of the last 30 years, and
to show just how diverse the
parks have become, 30 days,
from Jul> 21 through August 22
has been set aside by the Parks
for a special month-long celebra
tion
During these five weeks, the Park system
will put on its best and show off a little bit,
with programming that reveals how diverse
the system has become
The first week of the 30 days includes the
following activities
•July 21 Insects are the focus of two talks
at Nixon County Park's Nature Center, Rick
Mikula will host an insect workshop from 2
p.m. to 4 p m Pre-registration is required call
(717) 428-1961 From 6'30 p m to 8:30 p m , a
butterfly presentation will take place
•July 22 Rudy County Park will host a
BMX demonstration and test nde from 6.30 -
8 - 30 p.m at the BMX track located there
Also, Rocky Ridge County Park will host a
mountain bike clinic beginning at 5.30 p.m.
Meet at Rocky Ridge's front parking lot
•July 23 Parks Advisory board member
Dave Wildasm will lead a Nature Walk from
8.30 a m - 10 a.m at Spring Valley County
Park Pre-registration is required, call (717)
428-1961 In the evening, from 6pm -8 30
p.m., Raab County Park, an 1800's iron mine
that produced some of the best iron ore avail
able at the time-it also has two bat caves with
four species of bats will be the focus of an
exploration for the more adventurous public.
•July 24 Rudy County Park will be the set
ting for a star watch and bonfire The
Campfire Tales program (a bonfire complete
with storytellers) is for kids ages four to eight
This take place at the parking lot from 7 30
pm -930 pm At 9pm,a public star watch
will takes place in Rudy County Park's obser
vatory.
•July 25 Two events are planned for this
first Saturday a 9 a.m tour of the seasonal
Volksmarch trail in Nixon and Kain county
parks, and gold panning in Spring Valley
County Park
Prospectors can meet at the crossroads
(Potosi Road) parking area at 9 a m for the
gold panning session The Volksmarch trail
tour will meet with Shirley Truax at Nixon
County Park's Nature Center at 9 a m
