PFGC sponsors several awards to
acknowledge outstanding perfor
mance by forage producers and those
who work with forage producers.
These awards are described in this
issue.
Look over the different awards and
nominate qualified persons (you can
nominate yourself) to be considered
for an award.
Marvin Hall of Penn State serves as
the contact person for the awards com
mittee. He welcomes inquires for more

Objective of the Awards
Program
Recognize individuals in Pennsylvania who
have made an outstanding contribution to
some aspect of forage and grassland
improvement in the state. Awards are made
annually when there is a worthy candidate.
Presentation of awards will be made in
November at the annual forage conference
and meeting of the Pennsylvania Forage and
Grassland Council.
Award Categories
PFGC’s Special Award
This Special Award is the highest recognition
given by PFGC. It is presented to an individual
who has made a major contribution directly to
the Pennsylvania Forage and Grassland
Council as well as an outstanding contribution
to Pennsylvania’s forage and livestock industry
and/or conservation farming. The recipients’
contribution may have been in production
agriculture, industry, research, extension,
teaching, or other public service.
Research/Extenslon/Teaching Award
This award is presented to an individual
affiliated with either Penn State University,
Delaware Valley College or the USDA Pasture
Laboratory at University Park, PA who has
made an outstanding contribution to forage
and grassland agriculture in areas of research,
extension or teaching. No more than one
award will be presented annually.
Forage/Conservation Farmer Award
This is a joint award of PFGC and the Keystone
Chapter of the Soil and Water Conservation
Society of America. It is presented to a
Pennsylvania farmer who has demonstrated
superior skills in the development and
implementation of an outstanding soil and
water conservation program utilizing
appropriate forage and conservation species
as well as other approved conservation
practices.
Conservation Award
This Conservation Award is presented to an
individual in Pennsylvania, other than a
grassland farmer, who has made an
outstanding contribution in the area of soil and
water conservation emphasizing the use of
forage and conservation species. The
contribution may have been in research,
teaching, extension, or other areas of
leadership, such as agency personnel, in the
promotion or implementation of improved
conservation practices.
Outstanding Pasture Producer
Awards
This award category was established to
recognize outstanding producers throughout
Pennsylvania who effectively use pastures as a
major component of their forage-livestock
system. This awards will be presented on
behalf of AFGC (American Forage and
Grassland Council) to Pennsylvania producers
who have been declared winners in
Pennsylvania's competitive program.
Nominator and nominee may be asked to
complete a more detailed questionnaire about
the producer's pasture operation.

Nominations can be made by any member,
group of members, or persons affiliated with the
Pennsylvania Forage and Grassland Council by
completeing the nomination form on the reverse
side of this brochure. Active participation by
both the nominator and nominee in making
