n4-H HAPPENINGS Jackson Pin Thimblers 4-H Club The Jackson Pin Thimblers sewing and crocheting club has reorganized with five new mem bers. Officers were elected as fol lows: president, Lynette Belford; vice president, Shannon Wallace; secretary/news reporter, Jenni Marcho; and treasurer, Tami Glover. The club has decided to par ticipate in Project Linus. This organization collects blankets for seriously, chronically, termi nally ill, or traumatized chil dren. This club will be donating yarn for blankets that will hope fully give many children securi ty. The members received their Heavenly Scent Candles for their first fund raiser of the year on April 8. Explained by the Marcho’s, the members learned selling techniques and about the different varieties of candles available through Marcho’s Florist. The members plan to get busy selling. Everyone wished member Tami Glover good luck on her tonsil removal. Bethany Page called the April meeting of the Jackson Pin Tumblers to order at the North Jackson Methodist Church. Lynette Bedford shared what she had learned at the officer’s training session at the County Office Building. The candle fund raiser is continuing to go well for all the members. The club wel comed three new members - Jessica Terpstra, Sarah Manzer, and Sarah Hardy. The American Pledge led by Tami Glover opened the May 6 meeting of the club at the North Jackson United Methodist Church. The sewers were informed that judging day is July 9 The members made plans to go to a Red Baron’s game, the circus, and to Cole’s Park in August All members have work to do on their projects before July 9 Cowboys and Cubbers 4-H Club The Cowboys and Cubbers 4- H club held its organizational meeting in March. The members discussed several upcoming events, including the horse clin ic on April 18 and 19, held at Sue Smith’s. Dr. Scott Bidell from the Montrose Veterinary Clinic came to the meeting and talked about general horse mainte nance. As a bonus, 4-H club jackets were presented to each member from a previous fund raiser. At the May meeting, 13 peo ple were in attendance with five new nembers. On May 23 the club held a clinic with demonstrations given. On June 28 the members will be going to the Peranich Farm to see as miniature horse foal. The club also held a Mother’s Day pancake breakfast at the Silver Lake Fire Hall. Members filled out judging sheets of the different confirma tion of the horses to enter in a New York State contest. The Cowboys and Cubbers Club members also did a community service in May. A couple of local ladies that were involved in My Brother’s Keeper came to the club meeting and helped the members make a quilt for a local family. Paws And Tails 4-H Dog Club The Paws and Tails 4-H Dog Club met on March 1. Pledges were said. The group quizzed themselves on equipment for grooming and training a dog (different leads, muzzles, brush es, and harnesses). Renee Coy talked about the Skill-A-Thon that she partici pated in at Penn State Achievement Days last year and told the group what topics are quizzed bn. The group talked about the agility course that they will help build at the Humane Society. Sunrise Sunset 4-H Club The Sunrise Sunset 4-H Club’s first meeting took place at 4-H Leader, Mrs. Ileana Seman’s, house on April 25 Member in attendance at the meeting were Ann Wilbur, Brian Templeman, Catie Durran, Elizabeth Seman, Erica Seman, Jesse Durran, and Paul Shelly. Shortly after everyone arrived, everyone introduced themselves by saying their names, ages, grades, and explaining why they were in 4-H. Then the club leaders dis cussed the projects that they were able to do and help with. After that, the year’s new offi cers were elected. The election results were, president Erica Seman; vice president, Elizabeth Seman, secretary/treasurer, Kim Komar; news reporter, Jesse Durran; scrapbook, Sarah Holmes; game leaders, Ann Wilbur and Catie Durran. Hoofs In Clover 4-H Club The Hoofs In Clover 4-H Club met at the Elk Lake High School lunchroom. In February the club mem bers voted to make up an Easter basket for a needy child and col lect canned foods for a local food bank. Club members worked on mobiles for 4-H Awareness Week. Everyone had a great time creating animal cut outs and posters to show all the dif ferent 4-H projects that are available. At the March meeting, Debbie Place gave a demonstra tion to all members on teeth brushing. Upcoming events were discussed; Unadilla auc tion, clinic with Sue Smith. Veterinarian Rita Slocum was the guest speaker. She answered various questions on horse health. In April, club members brought in candy and toys and put together an Easter basket for a needy child.
