House Goes Home Without
Passing Research/Crop Insurance Bill
WASHINGTON, D.C. A
dispute over food stamp benefits
resulted in members of the U.S.
House leaving recently for a
10-day congressional recess with
out passing the final version of the
agriculture research bill.
Action on the research bill,
which also included provisions to
fund crop insurance and partially
restore food stamp benefits for
legal immigrants, stopped when
House members voted 120-289
against the “rule” which would
have stripped food stamp funding
from the bill.
“lt is critical that the House
move forward with this bill,” said
NFU President Leland Swenson.
