Three young women will compete for the title of York County Dairy Princess during the annual pageant planned for Saturday, June 20, at the 4-H Center, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Competing for the crown and the opportunity to serve as the county’s dairy industry spokes woman for a year are Heather Growl, Jessica Pomraning and Jessica Yohe. This year’s dairy court will also include two can didates for dairy maid, and one each for the positions of dairy miss and li’l dairy miss. Heather Crowl, 16, is the daughter of Joyce and Ellis Crowl, McCall’s Ferry Road, Airville. She is a junior at Red Lion Area High School and active in the school’s chapter of the Fla. Heather owns 22 head of Holsteins, Milking Shorthorns and Brown Swiss in the family’s Joy-El dairy herd and especially enjoys showing cattle as a 4-H dairy club mem ber. She has been one of York County’s Dairy Maids for three years. Jessica Pomraning, 16, is the daughter of Myron and Teresa Pomraning, Slab Road, Delta. Jessica is a junior at Red Lion Area High School where she is in the marching band, year book staff, and cast member of the school musical. She is also a member of the Airville 4-H com munity club. The Pomraning family milks 60 head. Jessica Yohe, 16, is the daughter of Kathy and Jerry Yohe, York. She is a junior at Spring Grove Area High School and member of the track and field teams Jessica is employed part time at both Hardee’s Restaurant and Stump Acres Dairy Farm, where her father works with the 1,200 acre, 100 milking-head operation. April Daugherty and Janet Yohe are candidates to represent the county’s dairy industry as Dairy Maid participants. April Daugherty is 14 and the daughter of Terry Anne and Phillip Daugherty, Lemon Street, York. An eighth-grader at New Freedom Christian School, April enjoys softball. She helps with the family’s herd of dairy cattle and has assisted with dairy promotion programs with her sister, current York Dairy Princess, Amanda Daugherty. Janet Yohe, 14, is the daugh ter of Kathy and Jerry Yohe, York. She is a ninth-grade stu dent at Spring Grove Area High School, active in the school orchestra as well as volleyball, basketball and track events. Janet is currently the vice-pres ident of the York Lutheran Youth Organization. Ten-year-old Amanda Hoover, candidate for Dairy Miss, is the daughter of Rose and Paul Hoover, East Prospect. The Hoover family raises and milks a herd of dairy goats. Li’l Miss candidate is Amber Thoman, four-year-old daughter of Gail and Gary Thoman, Dunkard Valley Road, Dallastown. Amber has helped with dairy promotions with her mother, coordinator of the York Is June 20 dairy promotion activities.
