Our boat was in our front
yard for a few days before we
found time to go to our small
camper in Snyder County. We
usually go during the week
rather than the weekends.
I expected a few mouse drop
pings but I was not prepared for
what we found. During the win
ter a rodent apparently lived in
comfort. After eating the soap it
brought a lot of nuts inside in

flannel pajamas. And, not satis
fied with chewing holes in
clothes, it also chewed through a
comfort, a blanket, and a sheet
to put one acorn under a pillow
on the bed. Actually, I guess I
am lucky that none of the three
feather pillows were chewed
open.
We fished in the morning and
we fished in the evening. I

caught 24 small fish and Allen
caught almost as many. Three
times I pulled my line in and
found two fish—one on each
hook. Allen got a big bass but
they were not in season and so it
had to be returned to the lake.
The next day when we
returned home, we were glad
that we only kept 20 of the fish
as it took us a while to clean
them. A fisherman even gave us
a few he didn’t want them. The
wind was blowing and the water
was quite choppy.
Now that we are home the
strawberries must be picked and
the asparagus that has grown
too tall. No longer do I sell sugar
peas and berries as I did years
ago. Therefore, no longer do I get
to see some of my neighbors who
live in the nearby development.
Most of them do not have gar
dens but rather buy from a
supermarket. Someday I may
have to do the same—but not
yet.
