USDA-MO Dept. Ag Market News
DAILY NATIONAL GRAIN
SUMMARY
Grain and soybean bids continue to
decline since the holiday weekend. Favor
able weather conditions for harvesting
wheat and planting progress for com and
soybeans, weighed on bids. Wheat 2 to 5
cents lower except Minneapolis 2 cents
higher. Com 3 to 4 cents lower. Sorghum 6
cents lower. Soybeans 3 to 6 cents lower.
Wheat harvest is well underway. USDA
showed a slight improvement in crop con
dition ratings. However, test on Texas
wheat showed proteins on the low side,
limiting losses. Light export sales over
night to South Korea were reported. Rapid
planting progress and excellent soil mois
ture pressured com and soybean bids. Soy
bean bids also declined due to lower soy
bean meal bids and some profit taking on
the board. Good overnight com sales to
South Korea but nothing this week for soy
beans. Grains inspected for export for
week ended 5/21/98: Wheat totaled 20.4,
up 9.4 million bushels, com 24.2, up 900
thousand bushels, sorghum 2.4, down 900
thousand bushels, and soybeans 4.9, down
2.2 million bushels compared to a week
ago. Year to date: Wheal 1013.3, up 49.5,
Com 1056.1, down 305.5, sorghum 144.4,
down 13.4, and soybeans 812.0, up 275.
