ANSWER David Simpler, 2645 Old Field Pt.
Rd., Elkton, MD. raises and trains beagles and finds it
costs more to go to the vet than to a medical doctor.
He would like old homemade remedies and good old
dog knowledge on do-it-yourself treatments of any
kind. Many medicines are becoming unavailable for
non-professional people, but he had heard that motor
oil, sulfur, salt, and kerosene mixed together will treat
mange and itch. Linda Jedju writes that a mixture of
motor oil, sulfur, salt, and kerosene will kill his poor
beagels. The mixture is toxic. Prevention is the best
home remedy, she writes. Clean pens, clean water,
quality protein dog food, and tender loving care.
Good, economical dog care products are available
through Jeffers Pet Catalog 1-800-533-3377. Or call
PBS Livestock Health (1-800-321-0235). Linda
admonished that if you are too cheap to contact a vet,
don't own a dog.
