Manage Tobacco To Prevent Blue Mold ROBERT J. ANDERSON Lancaster Co. Extension Agent, Agronomy Blue mold has been on a steady increase in the U. S. since 1990. This increase is due to sever al reasons. First, long periods of favorable weather. Second, a change in the fungus which made it resistant tp the major controlling fungicide used. Third, commercial production and transportation of trans plants. Fourth, poorly equipped sprayers making the application of non systematic fungicides less effective.
