Most moms and dads do not
always have the luxury of going
food shopping alone. Super
markets management expects
children to accompany an adult
to their store. They not only
provide lots of buying options,
but also have seats for young
children in grocery shopping
carts.
Grocery shopping with chil
dren need not be a problem!
Children can enjoy the experi
ence, leam and help you too!
Advance preparation is impor
tant.

enough, let them help you to
prepare the list. Organize your
shopping list in groups which
match the aisles or sections of
the store. This will speed things
up.
Be sure to feed yourself and
your children before you shop.

goodies if you have all eaten and

Have each child add one item to
the shopping list before you

buy. Give them the responsibili
ty of collecting two or three
items. A "list" can be made of
old labels or wrappers from food
items that you wish to purchase.
Children can identify foods with
similar labels as you shop.
Let children choose a new or
"special" vegetable or fruit when
they shop with you. This will
add variety to your meals and
spark their interest in helping
