A pair of 5-ycar-old Holsteins were named grand and reserve grand champion of the 1998 Maryland Holstein Association spring show held recently at the fairgrounds in Timonium. The pair of Holsteins was bred and owned by the Joseph Schwart zbeck family, of Peace & Plenty Farm in Union Bridge, capping a successful day for the family that also captured both premier exhibi tor and premier breeder honors of the show. Peace & Plenty Couns Tonia- ET was selected by judge Dennis Patrick as senior and grand champ ion of the show, as well as best bred and owned of the show. The Gay-Ridge Sexation Ten daughter out of Carnation Counselor-ET was also named best bred and owned, best udder, and total performance winner in her 5-year-old class. A total performance contest considers show placing, as well as dairy production records. Fresh last May, Tonya, and Excellent 91-percent classified cow, has a lactation record started at 4-year-old of more than 30,000 pounds, and is currently projected to about 36,000 pounds in her cur rent lactation. Herd mate Peace & Plenty Just Kaye a daughter of a homebred Tradition cow (classified Excel lent) and a homebred bull. Peace & Plenty AJct Justin-ET was named reserve senior and reserve grand champion. The Schwartzbeck family con sists of three generations working at the farm and three generations were helping to contribute to the farm's success at the show. Joseph and Noria Schwartzbeck, sons Gus and his wife Lisa, Shane and his wife (also a) Lisa, and grandsons Davis, Aubrey and Aus tin all participate in the 130-cow family fanning operation. “To me, the biggest honor of the show is to win best bred and own ed,” said Nona Schwartzbeck. The reserve grand champion of the youth division was a senior 2-ycar-old, Emest-Anthony SD Tobi-ET, owned by Brandon Kling. The junior champions were the same for both show divisions. The junior champion of both show divisions was a summer yearling, Windsor Manor Encor Taz, owned by Kristin Myers of New Windsor. Taz was also best bred and owned.
