STATE COLLEGE (Centre Co.) - The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture’s Meat Animal Evaluation Center has announced the results of its 25th Annual Performance Tested Bull Sale on March 27. The sale was part of the Ninth Annual Beef Expo. Dr. Bob Steele, dean of Penn State's College of Agricultural Sciences, brought greetings from Penn State and pledged support for animal agriculture. Ronnie Miller, representing State Agriculture Secretary Sam Hayes, brought greeting from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. The top-selling Hereford bull was consigned by Jennifer Strouse and was pur chased for $1,900 by Frazier Hereford Farm of Georgetown. The 15 Hereford bulls averaged $1,290. Marlin and Steve Paul of Glingerstown consigned the highest indexing Angus. This bull was purchased by Watchtower Farm of Wallhill, N.Y. for $2,000. Two other Angus bulls were also sold for $2,000. A bull consigned by Tim and Nancy Livingston of Dover was sold to Watchtower Farm. A bull bred by Paul and Bette Slayton was sold to Wingert Farms of Saint Thomas. The 27 Angus bulls averaged $1,428.
