    Forage And Grassland Council Conference Successful
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - 1998
American Forage and Grassland
Council Conference (AFGC) was
held here in March. More than 15
attendees were from Pennsylvania.
The theme of the conference was
“Forages at the Crossroads”.
The attendees heard a number of
speakers covering topics such as the
environment, wildlife, production,
and utilization of forages.
There were six presentations by
emerging scientists from throughout
the country. The program was moni
tored by Marvin Hall, the executive

topic was “Interaction Between
Mechanical Processing and Length
of Cut on Particle Size Distribution,
Compaction, Nutritive Quality, and
Digestibility of Com Silage.
There were seven presentations
from producers in North America in
the forage spokesperson program.
George Heintz from Union City was
PFGS’s representative as a forage
spokesperson program. George has
a small dairy farm in Union City

growing orchardgrass on his farm.
, The conference attendees also
had the opportunity to attend a
number of oral papers that were
presented by researchers through
out North America. Topics covered
included research on alfalfa,
broomegrass and alfalfa pastures,
clover, grazing, pastures, and rota
tional grazing among the 19 papers
offered.
Attendees also had the opportuni
ty to tour some facilities in central
chaffer and sieve for even finer cleaning and separation. If it’s
