COWS ABORT IF If you are feeding RYE from the silo; Rye hay; grazing on Rye or bedding on Rye straw; look out for abortions & cows not conceiving when bred. Occasionally: I get a call from a dairyman saying “I did everything I was supposed to do but some of my cows are still open.” In an attempt to find out why some cows were still open; I asked a series of questions from each dairyman that still had a few open cows & found that they had a common denominator. They were feeding Rye or bedding on Rye straw. When they took the Rye away; more & more cows got pregnant. But what are you going to do with all that Rye? Sell it to someone who has steers. The steers will put on a lot of weight on the Rye grass feed. I still need open cows. If still have open cows; call Frank 199Springton Rd., Glenmoore, PA 19343 1 -800-327-0727 or FED RYE.
