He also served as a mem ber of the Public Utility Commis sion including a brief stint as its chairman. In die private sector, Jones was president of the political action committee. Pennsylvanians for Effective Government, for four yean. Under his the PAC’s political budget climbed to over $200,000 each election year. He was also chairman of die Re publican State Committee of Pennsylvania for four years and during the period erased a $600,000 debt which he had in herited. In addition, he was presi dent of the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry from 1983 until his retirement in 1991. He was successful in forming coalitions to lobby for a broad spectrum of issues that have sus tained and improved the business climate in Pennsylvania. Jones is presently co-chair of Governor Ridge’s BRAC PAC, a volunteer position created to help save defense industry jobs in Pennsylvania.
