All corn silage is not created equal according to
Ron, Donna, Mark and Ronnie Hough. Until 4 years
ago, Valleys End Farm, Rebersburg planted Ciba-
Geigy corn hybrids. At that time Dave Martin, Young’s
Nutritional Consultant entered the picture. At first they
were skeptical about his insistence about the
importance of NDF digestibility and its relationship to
dry matter intake. No questions anymore.
Thanks to feeding high-quality corn silage hybrids
like 6511FQ and 7301FQ, their cows are making 102
lbs of milk and 246 days in milk, with a DHIA tank test
butterfat of 3.8. Their 57.35 forage to 42.65 grain
ration below is giving them income over feed costs of
$10.07.

Income over feed costs
The Houghs value cow comfort in their tie stall barn
and are an excellent management team on their dairy
farm. But without a doubt, Forage Quality Hybrids
from Cargill Hybrid Seeds have made their income
over feed costs escalate. So how do you improve on
102 lbs of milk at $10.07 income over feed costs?
They are planting 20 units of FULLTIME™ Forage this
spring. Can milk production and income over feed
costs get any better? ABSOLUTELY!
