The Pen nsylvania Holstein Association’s Showcase Sale, held late last week at the Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, totalled $67,925 on 48 lots for an average of $1,1445. Kenneth Raney, PHA executive director, said the sale was well received. “We appreciate the cooperation of the sale consignors, they offered a nice group of cattle for the sale,” lie said. “Selections fo the sale were made by Creedin Comman, Terry Kuehn, Dale Wack, Thad Sturgeon, Frank Putman, Don Wclk and Bill Allen.” Auctioneer was Harry Bachman of Annville, with Horace Backus rtf Mexico, New York, reading pedigrees. The top seller was a June 7,1997-bom heifer calf consigned by Robert Mong of Waynesbor o, purchased by Reid Hoover of Lebanon for $2,500. The calf, Afton-Springs Krissty-ET has a PTPI of +1,486, PTA of +1717 milk, +59 fat, and +67 protein. She was out of Afton-Springs Targ Kris-ET, a Very Good-88, and sin Hill- A-Way Astar Granite-ET TL, also scored Very Good-88. Tied for top seller was a calf bom May 9, 1997, out of Adams-Drcam-RW Aero Beta-ET and sire Shen-Val NV LM Formation-ET TL. Floyd Rayburn of Bloomfield, New York, consigned the calf, and it was purchased by Marvin Priest of Greencastle. The calf had a PTPI 0f+1,480, and PTAs of +2,271 milk, +53 fat, and +74 protein. Third highest seller was a 3-year-old daught er of Hanover-Hill Inspiration and a Very Good 87 cow, Circle-B Frank Mavis Blanche. It was consigned by Theodore Miller of Piles grove, N J., and purchased by Walter Brown of Connellsville for $2,200. Fourth highest seller was also a 3-ycar-old. Consigned by Rue ben Beilerof Gap, the Good Plus-81 Townson Lindy-ET daugther sold for $2,100 to Theodore Miller. Selling at $2,000 was a December calf con signed by Janice Jurbala of Orangeville, which sold to Trai Strowd of Pittsboro, N.C. The calf was sired by Startmore Rudolph-ET and dam Donegal-Creek Swind Success, an Excelient-91 2E cow. There were four lots selling at $1,900.
