Do you get frustrated when you
can’t find an important paper or
even something as simple as a
coupon that you just cut from the
newspaper? Lately I’ve been hunt
ing for an old paper that I simply
cannot find.
Now I do keep things rather or
ganized, I think, but sometimes
they do get lost Not only do I
keep newspaper clippings, but my
ancestors did the same. There are
boxes of obituaries and even en
tire newspapers that noted import
ant events.
I have discovered copies of half
i dozen wills that were made gen
erations ago. There are boxes of
advertising cards and postcards.
Even programs from a one-room
school that no longer stands. Some
'things are in good shape and
others are not

Composting Bin
COLLEGEVILLE (Montgom
ery Co.) - If you are a gardener,
you may already know the
answer. If you have a compost
pile or heap, you already under
stand. If you thought they all
belong in the garbage, wait!
Each of these things repre
sents an ingredient that can be
added to a compost pile, to con
tribute nutrients back to the
soil. No matter which way you
answered the question, there is
an easy way for you to learn
more about composting, and
earn yourself a $25 bonus in the
process.
It's simple. Call the
Recycling Education Program at
(610)489-4315 to request a "Bin
In Your Neighborhood" (BIN)
composting quiz, along with
educational materials on com
posting (only Montgomery
County residents are eligible.)
You can pass the BIN quiz by
reading through the handouts.
If you are unfamiliar with com
posting it might take you about
an hour to go over the informa
tion. Folks who already have
composting experience may sim
ply need a brief review to pass
Food Safety Course
LEESPORT (Berks Co.) -
Does your church group, fire
company or public organization
serve meals to a crowd? Penn
State Extension is offering a
food safety program for cooks,
servers, and organizers on the
basics of safe food handling
practices. This refresher could
®ake the difference between a
Peat fundraiser and a food poi
soning outbreak that could dam
ege your group's reputation and
finances.
Susan Fisher, family and con
sumer sciences consultant mas
ter food handler, will be the
Wstructor. The topics will
’nclude: causes of foodborne ill
ness, preventing foodborne ill
®ess, time and temperature con
sol, carryouts, handling left
-overs, working with other volun
on a binder purchased about 1920.
A beautiful emblem to put on a car
is in its original envelope. Of
course, there are almanacs and
tiny notebooks that were never
used. A few books of records are
among die boxes of papers.
There was even a well used old
pipe at the bottom of the pile. But,
die paper that I was hunting was
nowhere to be found.
We like to invite our grandchil
dren for meals. It is interesting to
see what their favorite foods are.
Some like hot dogs while others
prefer chicken. They are good lit
tle eaters and I appreciate that We

after meals but that is a small price
to pay for their presence. The

the quiz.
Any Montgomery County res
ident who completes and returns
a successful quiz to the
Recycling Education Program
will receive a $25 BIN coupon
redeemable at eleven area
retailers and three mail order
companies. The $25 can be used
to purchase building materials
(from specified materials list) to
build a bin, or put towards the
purchase price of a pre-built bin.
To make a pre-built bin an
affordable choice, the Recycling
Education Program has also
worked out arrangements to dis
tribute several hundred pre
built bins to BIN coupon holders
this spring at an incredibly rea
sonable cost. The "Home
Composter" retails for $7O. The
wholesale price for BIN coupon
holders is $35. Combine that
with a $25 BIN coupon and your
cost to purchase this sturdy bin
is just $10! To take advantage of
this offer, you must have a BIN
coupon, and you must use it to
order your Home Composter bin
