    FULL TIME™ FORAGE
the ymr
END OF TH
FOR DAIRY
Last year Ervin Hostetler, Belleville, PA fed FULL
TIME™ Forage and was pleased with the 9.5 lb.
increase in milk production he received. He
compared Full Time™ Forage to 7301FQ as part of
Cargill’s on farm feed trials. This year he is even
more convinced Full Time™ Forage is the wave of
the future for dairymen.
Currently, Ervin is getting 86.5 lbs. of milk and
making $9.00 income over feed costs/cow/day. His
ration on an as fee basis consists of:
75 lbs.
20 lbs.
12 lbs.
8.5 lbs.
1.25 lbs
.3 lbs.
But there is a lot more to his story. On November 17,1997 his
cows were milking 57 lbs. He was out of corn silage and was
getting ready to move to his new barn and milking parlor on a
different farm. After the move, the cows dropped to 49 lbs. The
cows were started out at 50 lbs. Full Time™ Forage and
gradually moved to 75 lbs. Full Time™ Forage. On December
24, the cows were producing 72 Ibs/cow/day. On December 26
Ervin started milking 3 times a day. One week later, they were
at 86.5 Ibs./day.
Will Ervin be planting more Full Time™ Forage in 1998?
ABSOLUTELY!
He and his Young’s nutritionist, Dave Martin are doing their
own research project. How much forage can these cows eat
utilizing Full Time™ Forage in the ration and what effect will this
have on feed cost savings, milk production and income over
feed costs?
Ervin already sees FULLTIME™ as the light at the end of the
tunnel for dairymen, but could it even get better?
The research project on Ervin’s herd has concluded and
the results are exciting! Twenty-six cows that were 250
days in milk were fed 108 lbs. of FULLTIME™ Forage and
no high moisture corn. That group increased 2.1 lbs. of
milk and income over feed costs was $8.39.
However, group 2 was the real winner. At 215 days in milk
they increased 10.9 lbs. and are producing 99.5 lbs.
Income over feed costs is $10.24. These cows were kept on
the original ration. The whole herd averaged 89.9 Ibs/milk
at $9.42 income over feed costs.
So what does Ervin plan on doing next year? He is going
to plant enough FULLTIME™ Forage to feed his cows 90
lbs. of FULLTIME™ Forage all year.
FULLTIME™ Forage is the light at the end of the tunnel
for dairymen! Don’t wait any longer Plant FULLTIME™
Forage this spring and reap the benefits all next year!
