Rough Month?
March takes its name from Mars, the Roman god of
war. The Old Saxon name translates to “rough
month," probably for the strong winds. It was later
changed to mean “lengthening month,” for the increased
light of its days, and has also been called “boisterous
month,” for the winds. In Greece, the first three days of
March, the middle three, and the
last three are times to avoid water.
Evil fairies,! called Dnmes, are
thought to work their magic
through the element of water dur
ing these times. Put off washing
or shampooing. If you must use
water, immerse an iron horseshoe
in it first, to ward off the evil
Water, taken in moderation, cannot hurt
anybody.
