“What we need now is support for the
team” Allen noted. “The kids are asking for
supporters to send donations for the trip to
Kentucky. Whether it be a small donation
from an individual or a larger one from a
company, all will be welcomed by the girls.”
To send a donation for the trip, address

Pony Drill Team

MANHEIM (Lancaster Co.) The Chin
coteaguc Pony Drill Team, the only one of its
land in the world, has been invited to perform
at Equitana USA, in Louisville, Kentucky, in
June of 1998.
The drill team, consisting of eight youth
between 12 and 20 years of age, each riding a
Chincoteague pony in precision formations,
set to music, had its premiere performance
last year, and was well received by its audi
ences. To many people, it is their first experi
ence seeing Chincoteague ponies away from
the island, full grown and saddle broke, and it
is a joy to see the ponies in acdod.
“It will cost the team close to $B,OOO to
take the eight ponies down to Kentucky and
perform there,” organizer and team coach
Kandy Allen noted. “Right now our focus is
two fold. First we want to be able to put on
the best possible show we can. Two, we have
to raise the funds to get there.”
Equitana USA, the World’s Fair of Eques
trian Sports will be held at the Kentucky Fair
And Expo Center, Louisville, Kentucky. Last
year about 50,000 people from 13 countries
attended. This is the first time that the Chin
coteague pony will be represented at the Fair.
The Allens are owners of Misty n, grand
daughter of Misty, and several other des
cendents of Misty of Chincoteague, the pony
make famous by the book by author Mar
guerite Henry. Several Misty ponies are used
in the drill team.
