Extension Sheep Series YORK (York Co.) Area sheep producers are invited to at tend a Sheep Management Series planned for March S, 12, 19 and 26 at the York County 4-H Center at Bair. On consecutive Thursday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m., sheep producers will study four areas of importance: care and maintenance of shearing equipment, lamb car cass evaluation, ram and ewe se lection and evaluating the effec tiveness of the parasite control program. ' Penn State Extension Specialist Dr. Clair Engle will be the fea tured speaker for each of the meet ings. Participants are encouraged to register with the York County Extension Office by February 27. The York Office phone number is (717) 840-7408. Enrollment fee for the series is SIS/farm opera tion to cover the cost of materials. The York County 4-H Center is located at 771 Stoverstown Road, off Route 116 West near the town of Bair. During the first session, participants are en couraged to bring hand held electric shears. Dr. Engle will teach how to disassemble and repair shearing equipment Participants will take apart their equipment and perform needed repairs. Most shears will need parts that will cost from $ 1 .SO-$2. Each participant will be billed for parts needed for their equipment Dress warmly since this session will be held in the unheated Exhibi tion Building at the 4-H Center. For the second session, Drs. Engle will talk about lamb carcass evaluation. He will discuss how to correlate visual appraisal with lamb car cass value. Ram and ewe selection will be fea tured at the third session. Discussion will focus on setting priorities for the sheep breeding pro gram. The optional fourth session will be held based on the interest of the participants. If there is suffi cient interest the session will focus on evaluating the effectiveness of the sheep parasite control program. Participants will leant how to perform a fecal flotation to decide how well the parasite control program is working.
