NYFB Disaster Relief
Effort Nears $150,000
GLENMONT, N.Y. The
New York Farm Bureau Disaster
Relief Fund has received nearly
$150,000 since its creation on Jan.
13, 1998 in response to the early
January ice storm that devastated
a six-county region of the state’s
North Country.
In making the announcement.
New York Farm Bureau President
John Lincoln said that he was very
pleased at “the tremendous public
outpouring of generosity” that the
NYFB Disaster Relief Fund has
enjoyed so far. He said the effort
to assist nearly 2,000 North Coun
try farmers to recover from the de
vastating ice is ongoing.
“This was the worst ice storm to
hit New York State in recorded
history,” Lincoln said. “When we
came to understand the severity of
the situation in Clinton, Essex,
Franklin, St Lawrence and Lewis
counties, we knew we had to do
something to help our farmer
neighbors of the North Country.”

over for North Country farmers.
They’re still reeling from the se
verity- of the storm, and they’re
still looking at the long-term im
pact.”
The Farm Bureau President said
that donations to the NYFB Disas
ter Relief Fund are still being ac
cepted. He said checks or money
orders written out to NYFB Disas

“This has been a very difficult
time for North Country residents,
obviously,” Lincoln said. “If there
is a silver-lining here, it’s that the
test of the state indeed, the en
tire nation has come through to
support this region of our state.
