to the paper but never bothered to
sign up at Lancasttr Farming’s
booth at the Farm Show until this
year,
“I saw the entry Uank to win the
ice cream freezer in the paper. I
filled it out ahead of time, but
when I got up there, I walked past
the booth because it was so full.
Then, I thought, ‘Well, I got it I
might as well desposit it,’ so I
backed up and reached over a lot of
heads to put it in the box,” Brillhart
said.
ST 7IP
He’s glad that he did. As the
winner of the drawing, Brillhart
plans to put the ice cream freezer to
plenty of use.
He and his wife Delores have
worn out several ice cream freez
ers over the years. It was time to
replace the one they had been
using recently.
Brillhart is delighted with the
6-quart White Mountain —the best
brand on the market for making
homemade ice cream, according to
homemade ice cream enthusiasts.
Now retired, Brillhart rails out
the family’s 112-acrc grain farm,
which has been in the family for at
least 70 years.
He had been raising soybeans,
com, and wheat on the farm until
three years ago.
“It was time to buy a new truck,
combine, and com planter if I
wanted to continue farming it, so I
thought this was a good time to
rent it out and sell the equipment,”
Brillhart said.
The equipment sale is slated for
Saturday, April 11.
The farm will not be sold but
kept in the family. The Brillharts
have a daughter Pamela.
Although Brillhart is planning
to sell his equipment, he still has
fanning in his blood.
“I do part-time fieldwork for a
local dairy farm, and I love it,” he
said. He continues to mow some of
the pasture land on his farm that
sits too low to farm.
i
Delores and Dale Brillhart win the Ice cream freezer from
Lancaster Farming’s annual drawing held during Farm
Show week. The couple have worn out several freezers and
are eager to put this one to woiic.
Brillhart enthusiastically
reports that he enjoys hunting trips
out west He’s already participated
in four trips and has “some nice
mule deer heads” as trophies. His
wife vacations in Florida while he
hunts.
Both share the enjoyment of eat
ing homemade ice cream. Here is
their favorite recipe for homemade
ice cream.
