‘Mr. Membership’
Honored By
NCGA
ST. LOUIS, Mo. Minnesota com
grower Richard Peterson, long an avid
membership recruiter for the National
Cora Growers Association (NCGA), was
recently honored as “Mr. Membership”
by the NCGA Board of Directors and
President Ryland Utlaut for “being the
man at the helm” as the organization’s
membership surpassed the 30,000 mark.
Peterson, chairman of the NCGA Field
Services Committee for two-and-a-half
years and past-president of the Minnesota
Com Growers Association, has been one
of the nations’ top NCGA recruiters year
after year.
“He never goes anywhere without an
application,” said Utlaut, a com grower
from Grand Pass, Mo. “He is a credit to
our membership program.”
He noted that Peterson is unique in his
ability to get com growers excited about
joining NCGA. “Just like the Nike com
mercial says, he just does it.”
What is Peterson’s motivation in his
drive to constantly recruit new members?
“I’m sold on what NCGA is doing and
the changes we’re making. When I’m
sold on something, it’s easy for me to
sell,” Peterson said, adding that, as Held
Services Committee chairman, he alone
cannot take credit for taking NCGA past
the 30,000 members level.
