Furlong said that raising a

The Polled Hereford, an early
junior yearling bull, Salunga Form

was named supreme this year at
York Fair. The 2-year-oid recently
won champion bull at the Key
stone International Livestock
Expo, Furlong indicated, and was
the reserve champion at the East
ern National Show in Timonium,
Md.
The farm will use him to bull
breed and sell semen to breed in
Canada, he indicated.

champion Angus heifer. Rains

Rains said the heifer, who will
be two years old in February, is
homebred and raised. He attri
buted success at the Farm show to
"a lot of time and effort, especially
genetics,” Rains said. “We choose
cattle that are balanced in traits in
terms of production.”
The manager makes careful use
of expected progeny difference
(EPD) information. All traits are
important “in combination,” Rains
said.
