1998. We also want to thank all of our customers for making 1997 another good year.
Jjsted below are some of the daily men we've been privileged to work with in the past year.
1. Lamar Burkholder, Reamstown - bought a well bred herd, not pushed, the herd was averaging 55 lb. when
he bought them, 2 months later, Lamar had them at 73 lb.
2. Steven Weaver, Stevens - bought a top herd in Vermont. Steven and his family had a celebration in the
milk house one evening when they weren't even finished milking yet, and the tank started overflowing.
3 months after moving date, the milk man had to start coming every day, the herd was averaging 88 lb.
3. Matt Stoltzfus, Gap - bought a top herd in Vermont. Imagine how thrilled Matt was when 2 months after
moving date, he had a cow at 135 lb. per day. His milkman also had to start coming everyday.
4. Dairyman in Little Britain - bought a top herd in Massachusetts. 6 days after moving date, the herd was
averaging 65 lbs.
5. Harlan Zimmerman, Mifflinburg - bought a well bred, not pushed, herd in New York. The herd was
averaging 55 lbs. in New York - 4 months after moving, they were averaging 70 lbs.
6. Eli Nolt, Annville - bought a top herd in Massachusetts. At 3x a day milking, Eli had them right at 100 lb.
daily average.
7. Lamar Zimmerman, Loysville - In 1996, bought a reg. 18,000 lb. herd in New Jersey. 18 months later,
Lamar had the herd over 24,000 D.H.I.A. He also classified them with 1 Ex. cow and several high V.G.
8. A. Stoltzfus, Lcola - bought a herd in New York in 1995. He bought 47 cows for his 42 cow barn. 2 years
later When his ovin heifers started calving, he still wasn’t able tb tie in all his cows. He only culled 4
cows in the first 2 years. He was also the first dairyman on those facilities that had to have the milkman
come every day.

We are well aware that 1997 was a very difficult year for dairy farmers. As you’ve done so many times in
the past, I guess you need to look ahead and hope you have a better year next year. Seems like the
dairyman needs to find ways to produce milk for less money, when all expenses increase. *Glenn Shirk
said, “Looks like the dairyman needs to learn to work smarter, not harder". *Phil Zimmerman said
“When the going gets tough, that’s when the tough get going”. *My dad said “A smooth sea never made
a good sailor". So let’s learn from this difficult year. Grab the helm of the ship with both hands - and do
as Christopher Columbus did. Sail On! and believe. Deut. 28:1-8
