Constancy at Christmas
In the language and sentiment of flowers, boxwood
(Buxus sempervirens) denotes constancy. Though its
root system is shallow, it is one of the evergreens that
shows good longevity, as long as you don’t plant it
in a climate prone to extremes, such as the

1 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg yolk
1/2 teaapoon vanilla extract
2 cups flour
1 teaapoon ground cinnamon

3/4 cup chopped walnuts
Makes about 2 dozen.
