CAMP HILL (Cumberland
Co.) Pennsylvania Farm
Bureau (°FB) has announced that
it wants to alert farmers to an
important series of public meet
ings now underway on future
environmental policy
Pennsylvania.
In June 1997, Gov. Tom Ridge
established the 21st Century Envi
ronment Commission. It is the
commission’s job to recommend
methods and policies to improve
the environmental qualities of the
commonwealth and measure the
results, while allowing enhanced
economic and social progress.
In other words, the commission
is to identify the environmental
priorities for the next century and
how to solve them.
“Fanners need to be involved in
these discussions,” said Guy
Donaldson, president of PFB.
“These meetings will set the stage
for important decisions that could
affect agriculture in the next cen
tury. I urge all concerned farmers
to attend the public meeting in
their area.”
Some meetings of the 21st Cen
tury Environment Commission
have already been held. Upcom
ing sessions are scheduled as
follows:
Nov. 12 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at
the Dubois Holiday Inn, Route
219 and 1-80, Dubois.
Nov. 13 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and
5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Inn at
Franklin, 1411 Liberty Street,
Franklin (Venango County).
