ly Cattle Summary
Compared to last week: Feeder steers
steady to 1.00 lower. Feeder heifers firm.
Demand moderate for steers; good demand
for heifers with most guaranteed open in
contrast to pot luck in past several weeks.
Steer and heifer calves steady. Calf
demand moderate as buyers continue on
the cautious side. Calf quality improved
from last week with several in lighter flesh
as weaning time extending or grass losing
protein value. Calves still in medium to
fleshy condition but less numbers in plumb
fat category. Weigh-ups of feeders and
calves average to full. Slaught it cows 1.00
lower. Slaughter bulls steady. Demand
light to moderate for bulk of cows; howev
er good demand for numerous thin Canner
types as country buyers aggressive for
these to return to country for upgrading.
950 cows and bulls sold with 50 percent to
packers. Receipts this week 14,475; last
week 9,479; last year 16,290. Supply con
sisted of 44 percent yearlings and calves
over 600 lbs; 49 percent calves under 600
lbs; 7 percent cows and bulls. Prices follow
with weighted average weight and price in
parenthesis.
