    GETTYSBURG (Adams Co.)
—The 13th Annual Adams Coun
ty 4-H Beef Show & Sale was held
at the South Mountain Fair
grounds near Arendtsville. Six
teen Adams County 4-H members
competed in the show and sold
their steers at the sale.
The grand champion 4-H steer
owned by Chris Seymore, York
Springs, was purchased by GS
Communications, Gettysburg, for
$4.10 a pound. The Adams Coun
ty Beef Producers Association do
nated the champion steer banner
for Chris and Stoney Point Limou
sin donated the banner for GS
Communications.
Missy Jeffcoat, Littlestown,
showed the reserve grand champ
ion 4-H steer. Bill Campbell of
Hoss's Steak and Sea House pur
chased Missy’s steer for $2.40 per
pound. The reserve champion

4-H Beef Show, Sale Successful
banner for Missy was donated by
Browns tone Farms and Spanglers
Restaurant donated the banner for
Hoss’s. Hss’s donated the steer
back to the Adams County 4-H
Beef Club for resale. The steer
was bought by PNC Bank.
Auctioneer for the sale was
Harry Bachman, Annville. Ches
ter Hughes, Lancaster served as
show judge.
The annual cake decorated by
Joanne Boyer was bought for
$825 by Bill Campbell, Hoss’s
Steak and Sea House. The cake
was donated to the 4-H Beef Club
for the “Ben Stine Memorial
Award.
Nine additional buyers donated
the cake back to the Beef Club for
the memorial award fund. The
buyers included The Syndicate,
Adelblute Inc., Byron Waggoner,
Donald Stine, Jo-Bo Holsteins,
GS Communications, Hickory
Bridge Farm Restaurant, Gordon
Shive of Lutheran Brotherhood
Insurance and Harry Bachman,
and Autumn Valley Angus. The
annual wooden clock was bought
by KC Acres. Monies Grom the
sale of the cake and clock will be
applied to the expenses of the
show and sale or the Ben Stine
Memorial Award.

More than 37S adult 4-H volun
teers and teens from 13 stales at
tended the recent event held at the
Ramada Inn and Conference Cen-
ter, Hagerstown.
Forum activities revolved
around the theme, “Volunteers
Give 4-H A Lift,” and
included hands-on
workshops, inspira
tional speakers, and
field trips to places of
cultural, historical, and
educational interest
John Carrington, for
mer 4-H educator in
Maryland, a magician,
and a motivational
speaker was the key
noter at the opening
banquet Judy Pugh, a
home economics educa
tor in Maryland, was the
Saturday night banquet
speaker. Her topic con
cerned the need for
laughter in our daily
lives and how good we
can feel when we laugh.
In addition to the
adult volunteers, several
states sent teams of
teens to participate in
teaching some of the
workshops and attend
ing others of interesting
topics that they could
share by teaching other
youth and adults when
they return to their
states.
