ANSWER Susan Rzucidlo, Newark, Del., wanted a
recipe for apple brown Betty with a lemon sauce. Thanks to
Stephen Leinbach, Chambersburg; Anna Martin, Denver;
and others for sending the same recipe.
Apple Brown Betty
3 cups tart apples, diced
1 'A cup soft bread crumbs
% cup brown sugar
% cup butter, melted
'/«teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
2 tablespoons lemon juice
'/i cup water
Add melted butter to bread crumbs. Combine apples,
sugar, salt, and cinnamon. Place a layer of buttered bread
crumbs in bottom of greased casserole. Add a layer of diced
apples, and another of crumbs. Continue with alternate lay
ers, having crumbs on top. Combine lemon juice and water
and pour over mixture. Bake at 350 degrees for one hour.

I'A tablespoon cornstarch
I'A cups boiling water
% teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons butter
Grated rind and juice of 1 lemon
Mix sugar, salt, cornstarch. Add boiling water. Stir until
smooth. Cook until clear. Remove from heat. Add rind, juice,
and butter. Stir well.

3 /« cup sugar or 1 cup confectioners’ sugar
1 teaspoon boiling water
V$ teaspoon salt
Va teaspoon lemon extract
Cream butter and sugar. Add remaining ingredients. Beat.
Chill before serving on fruit desserts.

'A cup butter
2 eggs
1 % cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
4 tablespoons cocoa
1 teaspoon baking soda
'A teaspoon salt
2'A cups flour
Vi cup buttermilk
2 cups zuchinni, shreded
'A cup chocolate chips
Vi -1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs and vanilla. Add dry
ingredients alternately with buttermilk. Fold in zucchini, cho
colate chips, and nuts. Bake in greased 9x13-inch pan at 350
degrees for 45 minutes.

Mix together eggs, sugar, vanilla, and oil. Add flour, cocoa,
baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon. Fold in rai
sins, nuts, zucchini, chocolate chips, and pineapple. Bake in
15x10-inch pan at 350 degrees about 60 minutes. Frost with
cream cheese icing if desired.

recipe for honey mustard pretzels was previously printed in
this section. She clipped out the recipe but has been unable to
find the required packaged mustard or honey dijon dry salad
mix. She would like to knoyv where to purchase it. Readers, I

ANSWER Evan Weidman, Westfield,
planted kidney beans this year and wants to know
the best way to dry the beans. Thanks to Sarah

beans before they dry, spreads them on newspap
er in a dry spot, such as an attic. The pods pop
open if you heat them in a layer cake pan before
shelling.
