National Yield Contest Names Winners ST LOUIS, Mo. Several area com growers were hon ored at a recent national yield contest. Clarence A. Keener Jr. of Manheim, Pa. placed first in the A nonirrigated class with a yield of 237.36 bushels per acre. Keener used a Pioneer 3335 hybrid. Clifford Stoltzfus of Cochranville, Pa. placed third in the state in the A nonirrigated class with a yield of 232.07 bushels per acre. Hybrid used with Pioneer 3335. Rhoda Mast of Morgantown, Pa. placed first in the state in the no-till irrigated class with a yield of 194.12 bushels per acre using Pioneer 3260. Matthew Maximuck of Doy lestown placed second in the state in the no-till irrigated class with a yield of 138.24 bushels per acre using Dekalb DK623. The local operation was one of 482 state winners named in nine classes in the 1996 contest. Conference Set Pennsylvania State climatolo gist who regularly appears on “Weather World.” Paul will discuss the weather in the past season and trends in Pennsylva nia’s climate, including the potential for global wanning. Marie Mattingly, agronomist with Hoffman Seeds, will pro vide an overview of the last growing season for com and soybeans. Other spekers will address soybean breeding issues and soybean market development.
