Growers Believe Com Production Might Go Lower ST. LOUIS, Mo. Na tional Com Growers Associa tion (NCGA) members think com production could go even lower than a USDA re port indicates, according to an informal poll taken at a recent meeting. But, said NCGA 'President Ryland Utlaut, com demand is good, and farmers can expect to see it improve. “In the past, when we saw a large crop, it would depress the market, but we now have more new uses and demand for our crop.” USDA lowered its Septem ber com production estimate to 9.267 billion bushels, down from 9.276 billion bushels in August. NCGA member farm ers put the crop at 9.108 billion EHH* SALES & SERVICE WALINGA BODY & COACH LTD. Farms in the area continue to feel the pressure of urbanization, particularly near large cities such as Pittsburgh. More and more, farmers should become involved to remain viable and part of the community. The word must go out that “farming isn’t the evil people sometimes make it out to be,” said Kimmel, with increasing con cerns about herbicides, pesticides, and other matters. “We have to live in the communities, too,” he noted.
