rich had both the youth show
grand champion, Beaver Run
Cinniburst-P, the first place dry
cow, and the reserve champion,
DAD Buttermint, a senior 2-year
old.
Dan Rishel and his sister Jen
nifer Rishel showed all but one of
the 18 Ayrshires in the competi
tion. Dan’s 4-year-old, Justa Roy
al Ace Rita, was the grand champ
ion, and his 5-year-old, Maple-
Dell IRS Howdy, was reserve
champion. Dan showed the
supreme champion of last year’s
West End Fair dairy show.
Nathan Sanders exhibited the
grand champion Brown Swiss,
NLS Royal Dory Daffodil, a
senior 2-year-old, while the
reserve champion went to Mark
Mapes for 3-year-old Mapes Rose
Louise. Youth show grand champ
ion was Andrew Walter for his
summer yearling. Wind Mill Chall
Maebelle, and reserve was Dawn
Amy Sanders showed the grand champion Brown Swiss
for Nathan Sanders.
West End Fair Presents Awards
Rise Select Jane, a junior 2-year

Guernseys, of which her
3-4-year-old dry cow, Cloverdale

MEYERSDALE (Somerset
Co.) Cassey Croner managed
to keep a graceful appearance and
be selected the Somerset County
Fair Queen. In spite of a torrential
rain that found the six contestants
walking on limestone sand in the
show arena instead of on the stage
fronting the grandstand.
“The rain made everyone more
nervous," the 16-year-old said.
“Being in a closed place, you
could see everyone.”
One of the questions put to Cas
sey, a junior at Berlin-Brothers
vallejr High School, was to
describe what, in a hypothetical
situation, she would say to a little

Cassey said she would tell the
newcomer that it was all right, that
she was winning just by trying and
if it would make her feel better,
Cassey would buy ice cream for
her.
The daughter of Norman and
Carol Croner, Berlin, Cassey said
she was encouraged to vie in the
fair queen competition by her sis
ter, who two years ago did so her
self.
With college ia mind, the fair
queen scholarships bestowed
upon the college preparatory stu
dent are welcome.
She is a seven-year member of
the Milksquirts 4-H Club, a mem
ber of Valley 4-8 Club, member
of 9ounty council, and a 4-H camp
