Angus Tops York Fair Junior Beef Breeding Contest JOYCE BUPP York Co. Correspondent YORK (York Co.) A junior yearling Angus heifer exhibited by Jessica Harcourt, Spring Grove, was selected as supreme champion of the York Fair’s junior beef breeding show. The February 1996 heifer topped three other breed champions for the ti tle. Contenders for the supreme banner were Amanda Daughter ty’s champion Hereford, Ray mond Slough’s Simmental breed winner and Kelly Hain’s Red An gus, winner of the Other Breeds class. Pa. DMA continues to be on the forefront of technology as well as being the industty’s leader in milk urea nitrogen testing with 24 percent of all cows on a Pa. DHIA testing plan using the MUN technology to further monitor their herd’s performance. The MUN committer, met on Sept 3 at the Penn State Days Inn located in downtown State Col lege. Marketing strategies was the forefront of the agenda. The committee decided it was essential to the Pa. DHIA mem bership that continual education of MUN testing be offered in work shop and article forms. Also, in order to accommodate an overwhelming amount of new interest in the product in southeast Pennsylvania, a milk urea nitro gen workshop will be held at Yod er’s Family Restaurant, Route 23, East of New Holland at 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 18, 1997. Both transportation and lunch will be provided. All dairy far mers, nutritionists, veterinarians and others interested in the dairy industry are invited to attend. All dairymen are welcome to bring their MUN herd management records and current feed ration.
