BEEF SHOW A show sponsored during the 4-H fair by the Beef Club featured both breeding and market entries. In the market steer show, Tarn mi Grubb was chosen the heavy weight and grand champion .-win ner. Jamie Welsh took the reserve champion spot Hope Long had the winning steers in both the light and medium weight divisions. Reserve champion lightweight went to Cassandra Hake, while Raymond S tough exhibited the re serve mediumweight winner. Brett Bishard topped the heifer classes, snagging the supreme champion with his winning Angus, Bishards Elba 6035, sired by OSU 656 Ultra. Elba, also the top bred and owned entry, was bom in April 1996. Correspondent BEDFORD (Bed ford Co.) Bidders were more plentiful than the baked goods as the annual 4-H baked goods auction got under way at the Bedford County Fair. Highest bid item was a $37.50 ladybug shaped cake which had a “best of show” ribbon. Volunteer auction eers, Stanley Clay comb and Linda Muir, got top dollars for all of the items including a plate of fudge which went for $18; a plate of Hershey chocolate cookies, $25; a $2B first place apple pie; and a $26 prize win ning chocolate cake. Cookies which tot aled less than a half dozen brought as much as $6. Grand total was $940, slightly less than last year. While there were more bid ders and bidding was higher, there were fewer baked items. m vp
