gation systems over his entire
farm of 1,000 acres.
Always a proponent of conser
vation practices, Collins used no
till techniques to reduce soil ero
sion and routine soil testing to
determine accurate lime and fertil
izer needs. He was among the first
farmers on Delmarva to build a
dead-bird composter and a manure
storage building. In addition, his
farm is enrolled in Delaware’s tax
ditch program.
Collins retired in 1991, leaving
the farm operation to his son. That
same year, father and son won the
1991 Master Farmer Award pre
sented by Pennsylvania Farmer
Magazine and Cooperative Ex
tension Service for high achieve
ment in farming and public ser
vice. He has also received the
Delaware Farm of Distinction
Award.

Dear Friends of the Clinic for Special
Children
We are again asking for your support and
donations of saleable items to sell at the 6th
Annual Benefit Auction on Saturday, Sept 20, 1997,
at the Leola Produce Auction site on Brethren
Church Rd , Leola, PA
All proceeds will go to the Clinic for Special
Children, a non-profit organization, with Dr Holmes
Morton as the attending physician Dr Morton has
taken a special interest in several hereditary
diseases By testing all newborn babies of high-risk
percent-age, he has been able to prevent
irreversible brain damage of many of these young
children The same tests that are done at the clinic
for 5 35“ would cost s 3so°° to MOO 00 at major medical
centers, making these tests too expensive for
many parents The costs of owning and operating
this laboratory equipment are huge, but with the
funds from this annual auction the clinic has been
able to offer this service to their clients at a price
that is affordable by the average parent
You may contact any of the following for more
information or, if you wish, deliver your donation to
any of them Thank you for your support *
