Since the Dairy of Distinction program began in Pennsylvania in 1987, hundreds of dairy
fanners have applied to have their farms recognized as a “Dairy of Distinction.” We have
had another good for the program. Those attractive farms that are honored will receive a col
orful farm sign that is truly an advertisement for the dairy industry, not only to neighbors, but
to those who pass their farms. This is the purpose of the program: to be a point of pride in
promoting the source of the state beverage milk.
We want to express our thanks to all that applied for their award this year. And we want to
express our thanks to all who supported the program especially those who supported the
program financially.
If you applied and did not receive the award, then apply again next year, correcting items
needed to be corrected. One dairyman applied this year mainly to have the sign up for adver
tising milk on the highway. He feels the more who participate in the program will help
improve milk sales. That is the bottom line.
The winners in 1997 will be recognized on Tuesday, August 12 at Ag Progress Days at
2:15 p.m. in the special events building. We hope you are able to attend. The photographs
taken by your local district and enlargments provided by Lancaster Fanning will be
displayed.
Thanks again to all our hard-working volunteers on the committees for making the prog
ram successful.
