Grain Market
ST. JOSEPH, MO
JULY X, 1997
Wheat bids slightly lower, com and
especially soybeans sharply lower. Wheat
mostly 2 to 3 cents lower with Minneapolis
11 cents lower. Com 4to 7 cents lower.
Sorghum 10 to 11 cents lower. Soybeans
34 to 40 cents lower. Harvest pressure,
good weather conditions and slow export
demand were weakening factors for wheat
bids. Harvest progressing and good yields
are being reported most placet. However,
higher protein crops are scarce. Com bids
declined at favorable weather conditions
continue across the Midwest. Beneficial
rains overnight were reported in placet.
New crop com bids and tome of the off rail
country elevators down around 2.25 per
bushel and a couple of months ago they
were around 2.40. Very sharp declines in
soybean bids again due to USDA't acreage
report yesterday with a record 70.9 million
acres planted. The largest since 1982. Cur
rently soybeans in very tight supply but
beware farmers. New crop bids at country
elevators have dropped fifty cents in the
past two days and now well below 6.00 per
bushel. Expectations of a record harvest
this fall is the priroaty depressant factor.
This given some producers second
thoughts about following beans behind
wheat harvest U.S. Export Sales:
