The Umbles have been farming with Harvestore
structures since 1975 when Dale’s father Vernon erected
a 2080 for haylage. The herd is currently at 22,200 lbs.
milk, 714 lbs. protein and 850 lbs. fat. Herd receives
total mixed ration of haylage, cornlage, rye silage, a mix
of high moisture barley and shelled corn (coming out of
Harvestore structure mixed with their Power Sweep
Auger unloader), roasted beans and supplement.

Clair and Scott’s father Elam purchased the family’s first
Harvestore structure, for high moisture corn, in 1971 and
it was replaced with a larger structure in 1992. Herd
average is at 23,400 lbs. milk, 755 lbs. protein and 850
lbs. fat. Feed ration is a total mixed ration for one group,
no top dress, of haylage, corn silage, high moisture grain
and 40% supplement. The high moisture grain consists
of a mix of shelled corn and recently harvested high
moisture barley. A new Alliance™ unloader was
installed in 1996.
