AGA Elects Four Directors REYNOLDSBURG. Olio The members of die American Guernsey Association recently elected four directors to its board, during its annual convention 4n LaCrosse, Wis. John B. Morrow of Tyrone, Pennsylvania, was re-elected for District Two. Morrow and his wife Karen are the owners of Hillside Farm with their children; Melissa, Kristi, Matthew and Douglas. John has served as president and director of the Pennsylvania Guernsey Breeders’ Association and is curtendy a delegate for his local Land O’Lakes Cooperative. Morrow believes the Guernsey breed is the number one breed of dairy cows for intensive grazing. He also feels that Golden Guern sey milk is far superior for drink ing, compared to the milk avail able to consumers today. He believes the association must promote these strengths while continuing to provide regis tration and identification for ani mals with Guernsey genetics. “We must emphasize prod uction, youth, young sire pro grams, appraisal and shows for the Guernsey breed to prosper in the future.” Morrow said, adding that he feels that his experience as a member of the Executive Com mittee and chairman of the Fin ance Committee are among his strengths as a director. He has been elected by the membership to carry out the remaining two-year tom of this position. Ohio Rebekah Powen of Plain City, Ohio, was the recipient of the first National Guernsey Youth Scholarship. This award was presented dur ing the National Youth Banquet held during the National Guernsey Convention in LaCrosse, Wiscon sin, on June 22. Powers is the daughter of Paul and Priscilla Powers. She attends The Ohio State University and is majoring in dairy science. She has received her American FFA Degree and has been an FFA National Dairy Proficiency win ner. Rebekah’s key responsibilities on the family arm. Ark Farm, are to maintain the farm’s breeding, vaccination, production and health records, along with general veter inary care. This responsibility has fueled Rebekah’s interests in vet erinary medicine. Rebekah, also a 1997 National Guernsey Youth finalist, will use her $5OO scholar ship to further her education. The National Guernsey Youth Scholarship is available to gra duating high school seniors through 21 years of age of Jan. 1. Applicants must own one or more registered Guernseys and be a junior member of the American Guernsey Association.
