LANCASTER (Lancaster Co.)
Soybeans arguably the
world’s most versatile plant
have done it again.
A new, earth-friendly soy oil
“dust suppressant” made its East
Coast debut at Lancaster’s Bridge
Acres Stables in a remit demon
stration sponsored by the Pennsyl
vania Soybean Board (PASB) and
Central Soya of Indiana. The high
light was a demonstration run by
Bridge Acres horses, who kicked
up a cloud of dust on an untreated
portion of track but didn’t raise
one speck on the soy-treated side.
Deputy Pennsylvania Agricul
ture Secretary Russell Reddin was

PASB Director Jay McGinnis.
The demonstration was provided
by “Dustkill," the region’s first
supplier of die new biodegradable
product
“Anyone associated with horses
knows dust is a serious and con
stant problem.” said Dustkill’s
Jack Coleman. “It creates an
unhealthy and uncomfortable
atmosphere for people and ani
mals, and can damage equipment
Until now, solutions woe short
lived or had side effects, but the
new soy products changes all
that.”
Traditional dust control treat
ments include petroleum products
or water, both of which have
raised certain environmental
concerns.
According to researchers who
developed the new soy product it
is biodegradable, nontoxic, long-
lasting, non-corrosive, washes oft
equipment easily, doesn’t conta
minate water supplies, and is
made from a renewable American
resource.
Applied with spraying equipment
it penetrates ground surfaces, con
trolling dust for as long as one to
two years.
