Ohio The 4 millionth Jersey female was registered June 16 by the Ameri can Jersey Cattle Association (AJCA). Robins Nest Marty Nancy was bred and is owned by Kenneth and Beverly Robinson. Saint Johns bury, Vt “Nancy” is a daughter of Rock Maple Sooner Marty-ET, PTI+22I. “Nancy” is described as “fies ty” and a “nice looking calf” by Beverly Robinson. The Robinsons raise a small number of replace ments, so “Nancy” was special from the beginning. Robinson said they have just gotten their registrations up to date, and was surprised to hear that one of their heifers had become a milestone for the AJCA. The Robinsons have been milk Service and Installation Lancaater Farming, Saturday, July S, 1997-All ing Jerseys since 1985 and send their milk to AgriMark Co-op where they have received Ver mont’s highest dairy quality award five times. Jerseys are a family tradition for the Robinsons, who say the smaller Jersey suits their farm which has limited acreage. Since Beverly was the primary herdsper son when they began milking, she also appreciated the Jersey’s mild temperament. Jerseys continue to be the only dairy breed experiencing growth in registrations. The average num ber of registrations by breed for the years 1985 through 1987 and the average number between 1994 through 1996 shows that A three-year average is used to lessen the impact of fee changes and special registration promo tions. Jersey registration numbers are up over 6.5 percent while the other breeds are declining.
