Summer Solstice
Bend your knee in honor of the summer solstice (June
21) by tending the herb garden or, where there is
not one, beginning a small pot or window box of a
few kitchen essentials; basil (sweet or opal varieties),
thyme, rosemary, parsley, and sage. All have been used
medicinally, as well as for
kitchen potherbs. Parsley needs
(( a deep pot for its long taproot.
Tansy or tall camphor basil grow
ing near your doorstep will repel
ants and moths. If you plant tansy,
mint, or bee balm, do so by sinking
large, well-drained containers in the ground.
Otherwise, you may regret their invasive tendencies.
An English summer: two fine days and a
thunderstorm.

mist regularly.
Lamb Kabobs
1/4 cup olive oil
1 tablespoon tomato paste
1/2 tesspoon crushed
rosemary
1 clove garlic, minced
1/2 teaspoon sslt
1/4 cup rice vinegar
1/4 cup white grape juice
