4-H News
Recently. SO members of the
4-H dairy program in Susquehan
na County visited Penn State
University.
The group of 4-H’crs touted
several sites on campus. Included
in those sites were the newly con
structed dairy facilities, the Dairy
Breeding Research Center, the
annual Dairy Exposition, and the
annual Blue & White game.
The dairy facilities offered
fy advancements in dairy tech
gy. The research projects that
s under way at the facilities
had many members amazed, as
many questions woe asked.
They then visited the Dairy
Exposition, which was held at the'
Ag Arena. The Dairy Exposition
is a showmanship and fitting com
petition for college students. It is
sponsored by the Dairy Science
Club. There, everyone enjoyed
lunch, which was provided by the
Block an Bridle Club. As the
members were eating lunch on the
balcony of the Ag Arena, they
watched as college students
demonstrated their talents in the
Expo. Some participants of the
contest were fellow 4-H members
of the county. This provided excit
ment and encouragement from the
younger members.
They next proceeded to Beaver

While game was about to kickoff.
Before kickoff, the kids had the
opportunity to meet with the play
ers of the Penn State football
team. The players were offering
autographs to excited fans. A
record crowd of 62,000 people
was on hand.
■ Hoofs In Clover
Horse And Pony Club
The club held a meeting recen
tly at the Elk Lake School. Megan
Wescott did a demonstration on
the hoof. Kailey Place talked
about the USA Pony Club.
Lindsay Place did a demonstra
tion on poisonous plants. The
members talked about the person
al ponies program and the ponies
which are trained for disabled
children. Upcoming events woe
also discussed.
The DES 4-H club met at the
Elk Lake Fire Hall for its April
meeting. Members received the
papers they need to keep records
during the year.
They discussed fundraisers, and
will be having a Bike-a-thon to
raise money for St Jude’s Child
ren’s Hospital.
The members also discussed
their schedule for the year.

At the May 5 meeting, the
members and their dogs reviewed

“down.” There will be a short
program called “Blessing of the
Animals” with a ring of dogs and
different animals on May 18 at 2
p.m on The Green in Montrose.
Members may bring their dogs
and work them in the ring.
Baconeers
Swine Club
A meeting was held at the
Claveiack Building in Montrose
on April 27. After the secretary’s
report was given, the members
discussed a fundraiser.
Progressive Clovers
4-H Club
The May meeting of the Prog
ressive Clovers 4-H Club was held
at Baust Parish House in Tyrone,
Md.
The meeting was opened by the
President Amy Miller, followed
by the 4-H Pledge led by Stephen
Bowers.
Members participating in the
Poultry Bowl were Matt Carman,
Lauren and Heather Harris, Jason
and Amy Ridinger, Vicky and
Valerie Robertson, Amanda Wat
son, and Steven Haines, as the
narrator.
Members that participated in
the County Dairy Bowl were
Senior Team; Josh Sanders and
Brett Haines. Junior Team mem
bers were Jon Sanders and Ryan
Haines.
Matt Carman was a junior
member on the Horse Bowl Team.

candy bar sale. The club will be
visiting Brookfield Manor on June
19 at 10 a.m. The club picnic will
be held on July 13 at the Tancy
town Rod & Gun Club.
Amy Ridinger was the winner
of the 100th Anniversary Carroll
County Fair Catalog Cover Con
test All Carroll County 4-H Fair
entries are due at the 4-H Office
by June 20. This year there will be
special Alumni Classes at this
100th Anniversary* Fair. All
Alumni are encouraged to Niter by
June 30 at the 4-H office.

The club participated in the
Union Bridge Memorial Day
Parade and the Union Bridge Fire
man’s Parade.
The second meeting of the club
was held at Mrs. Booth’s home on
Friday, April 25, from 7:30 p.m. to
9 p.m. The meeting was officiated
by former president. Jessica
Canfield.
4-H members in attendance

North Jackson
Ag And Community Club
The club held its second meet
ing at Joe and Sandy Pavelski’s
home. The meeting was called to
order by President Matt Pavelskl
Roll was called by Secretary
Heather Pease and this treasurer’s
report was given. Next, the presi
dent asked what business needed
to be discussed and the question of
where to have a club fim-day was
mentioned. Matt Pavelski gave the
placings of die members of the
club who went to the Penn State
Dairy Judging Contest in March.
It was decided who would give
demonstrations at the next
meeting.
Volunteers were Matt Pavelski,
Matt Pease, Kendal Miller. Katie
Onyon, Aaron Jones, and Heather
Pease. Project books were handed
out by leader Diane Miller and
parent Sue Pipitone.

Red Rose Beef
The May meeting of the Lan
caster County Red Rose 4-H Beef
Club was held Wednesday, May
7, at the home of one Delvin
Kropf. The meeting was called to
order by the president, Jill Hof
flnes, after which the Pledge of
Allegiance was led by Linford
Hershey, and the 4-H Pledge was
led by Loren Hershey.
The program for the evening
covered the topics of showman
ship, breeding projects, and health
papers. The program was pre
sented by leaders Bob Hess and
Fritz Frey.
The next meeting will be held
Wednesday, June 18, at 6:30 p.m.,
at the Farm and Home Center, for
an ice cream social with the Wool
ies and Swine Clubs.
