Top Living Lifetime Producers REYNOLDSBURG, Ohio The living lifetime production awards recognize the leading life time producers of the Guernsey based on official production verified by the American Guernsey Association. The following awards will be presented at the American Guern sey Association’s annual meeting in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. This year topping the living lifetime list for milk and protein production is Heart O Gold Tele star Eitiily. “Emily” will receive the Liebers Trophy for her highest living lifetime milk record and the Arnold Knight Award recognizing her as the highest living lifetime protein producer. “Emily” was bom June 19, 1980. Ohio The American Guernsey Associa tion is to recognize commercial herds at the National Guernsey Convention in LaCrosse, -Wisconsin. The AG A will recognize the top hod for energy corrected milk that is at least one and one-half rimes larger than the average size herd on the Total Performance Evaluation (TPE) program. In 1996, the average TPE herd was 40 cows; therefore, to be recog nized for the 1996 commercial herd award, there must be at least 60 complete lactations in the herd. This award recognizes both TPE and non-TPE herds of registered Guernseys. The commercial herd award is sponsored by the New York Guernsey Breeders’ Cooperative and began in 1995. The top com mercial herd for 1996 is owned by David Vanden Heuvel of Black Creek, Wisconsin. Hie Dennis Nelson herd of HU mar, California, receives second place honors, with an energy cor rected average of 21,006 pounds. The 73 cows on Nells Glow Guernsey Farm had a 1996 lacta tion average of 18,094 pounds of milk, 816 pounds of butterfat and 628 pounds of protein. The partnership of Millie Wid rtiann and Axel Linde own the 74 cows that rounds out the top three herds for the 1996 commercial herd award. The Lindenhof herd of Oxford, Pennsylvania, had a lactation average of 18,153 pounds of milk, 811 pounds of butterfat and 624 pounds of pro tein. and an energy corrected milk average of 20.931 pounds. Guernsey shows. He has always been a real promoter of the Guern sey breed and. has held every office in the Indiana Guernsey Breeders’ Association, as well as, serving on various committees. At present, he is the president of the Indiana State Dairy Associa tion which maintains the DHI program in Indiana. Robert E. Jones, service coordinator, said that Lee has served on their board for many years and has given excellent service. Phil Sparks, president of the Indiana Guernsey Breeders’ Asso ciation said that Lee has always been a true leader, and always promoted the dairy industry, the Guernsey cow and our youth.
